In the last 15 years, parallel to the developments in health, open heart surgery has begun in many cities of Türkiye. The increase in the number of surgical centers has made it easier for patients and their families to have surgery in their own cities and access services when needed. However, this abundance of centers can confuse heart surgery candidates and their relatives, sometimes making it difficult to reach the correct diagnosis and treatment. It should be remembered and not overlooked that the preoperative and postoperative care of our patients is as important as the surgery itself. Heart patients with additional problems such as diabetes, chest disease, kidney failure should especially apply to large and well-equipped centers.

Having adopted the principles of up-to-date knowledge, accurate diagnosis, and most appropriate treatment, our university hospital in Adana has been successfully performing heart surgery since 1999. Since then, patients from both pediatric and adult age groups have been operated on in our clinics. Our claim to be the leading heart surgery center in the region from Çukurova to Southeastern Anatolia is proven, not only for Adana but also for the whole region.

Heart Transplantation and Artificial Heart Devices

Besides the general practices like coronary bypass, valve surgeries, aortic surgery, aneurysmal diseases, and vascular surgeries, our clinic in Çukurova Region is the only heart transplant center that also provides treatment for end-stage heart failures with heart transplants, artificial hearts, and heart support devices. Accepting a high number of patients from neighboring cities, our clinic has recently become one of the clinics where the highest number of heart transplants can be performed in our country.

Minimal Invasive Surgical Treatments Through Small Incisions

In suitable cases, better clinical results can be achieved without cutting the breastbone, by entering from under the armpit or under the breast, which also allows for less postoperative pain and higher cosmetic satisfaction.

Complex Heart Surgeries, Reoperations, and Coronary Bypass on Beating Heart

Our clinic, with over 20 years of experience, is a reference center not only for standard heart surgery procedures but also for complex surgeries (coronary bypass, valve surgeries, aortic surgery) involving various different pathologies. In some patient groups with severe lung damage, where connecting to the heart-lung machine poses a high risk, we are also able to successfully perform coronary bypass surgeries without stopping the heart. Comprehensive Treatment of Varicose Veins and Venous Diseases

Besides life-saving heart and major vessel procedures, our clinic is also the most equipped center in the region for the treatment of widespread problems like venous diseases and varicose veins. Patients coming to our clinic can be treated for their varicose veins, from the thinnest capillary varicose veins to the most advanced level, using the latest technologies. Cardiovascular surgery services which was initiated with the first open heart operation in 10 May 1986 has formed the basis of our department. Cardiovascular surgery is a very dynamic discipline with the new methods and techniques of the cardiovascular disease treatments.

Pediatric Cardiac Surgery Unit

One of the priorities of our unit has been surgical treatment of congenital heart diseases since its foundation. Recently, our unit is one of the most distinguished centers of our country. Also our unit is one of the most busy units in Europe, performing approximately 650 surgeries on children every year, particularly accepting newborns and babies in the first year of life.

Adult Cardiac Surgery Unit

More than 25,000 heart operations have been performed since its establishment in 1986 till 2014. More than 1000 adult cardiac operations are performed per year recently. The patient profile is mostly consisted of coronary artery, valve surgeries and heart transplantation. Diagnostic units and operating conditions are planned to serve for 24 hours for the possible emergency situations specific for coronary heart diseases.

Heart Transplantation Unit

Treatment program at this field began in 2002 and currently it is one of the busiest transplantation centers in our country. Special attention is paid to the terminal stage heart failure patients and especially who have complex congenital heart diseases.

Vascular Surgery Unit

It has been established to provide a specific point of view to both surgical and medical treatment of vascular diseases. Outpatient care is provided to more than 4.000 patients annualy. All kind of arterial system treatments are being performed in medical and surgical poit of view, including vasodilatation therapies, carotid endarterectomies and distal limb bypass surgeries. Thermocoagulation, sclerotherapy, endovenous treatments in the treatment of varicose veins are performed; a separate unit has been established for the treatment of post-thrombophlebitic syndrome, lymphedema and venous ulcer treatments.

This unit is also the pioneer in our country for endovascular stent graft applications in aortic aneurysms, performing operations successfully for the patients who are convenient for this process.

Thoracic Surgery

Surgical treatments of all intrathoracic diseases, mainly lung cancers, restoration of chest wall structural deformities, cyctic and inflammatory diseases of lungs are performed. VATS (video aided thoracoscopic surgery) which is getting more popular at recent years is a surgical approach to intrathoracic pathologies. Especially the video operation of hyperhidrosis (sympatectomy) which has hand and arm sweating symptoms is successfully treated in our clinic.
