Başkent University was established in Ankara in 1993 under the leadership of our founding rector Prof. Dr. Mehmet Haberal, as a result of the joint initiatives of the "Haberal Education Foundation" and the "Turkey Organ Transplantation and Burn Treatment Foundation." Our Adana Hospital was opened in 1995 by Dr. Turgut Noyan.
The center, currently known as the "Başkent University Adana Dr. Turgut Noyan Application and Research Center," houses our department of general surgery, which was founded by Dr. Turgut Noyan, who is also a specialist in general surgery, and continues to actively provide services.
Since its establishment, our center has aimed at providing services in its region based on modern and up-to-date information. Our department of general surgery has followed advancements in the fields of service, knowledge, and technology, and has reached a respected position in the region.
Currently serving primarily at the Yüreğir campus, as well as at the Kışla and Seyhan campuses, our department is structured to work in the sub-disciplines of hepatopancreatobiliary surgery, colorectal surgery, breast surgery, and endocrine surgery, and aims to adopt a specific working principle similar to contemporary international practices.
In this context, various surgeries are performed, including liver and kidney transplants, surgeries for liver, bile ducts, and pancreas, primarily cancers, surgeries for stomach and esophageal cancers, splenectomies, surgeries to prevent stomach hernia and reflux, bariatric surgeries for obesity treatment, surgeries for all types of cancers and non-cancerous conditions of the small intestine, large intestine, and anus, surgeries for prolapse of the large intestine, surgeries for peritoneal cancers, and surgeries for inguinal, umbilical, and post-surgical hernias, predominantly using advanced laparoscopic (minimally invasive) techniques. All modern surgical methods are successfully performed for hemorrhoidal diseases and pilonidal sinus.
Also, all types of diagnosis and follow-up for breast cancer and non-cancerous conditions of the breast are conducted, and surgeries are performed using oncoplastic surgical techniques to control the disease and maintain visual integrity according to international standards. In our center, surgeries for cancerous and non-cancerous diseases of the thyroid and parathyroid glands, neck dissections, and laparoscopic surgeries for adrenal gland diseases are performed. The department is an important referral center in the region with its scientific contribution and wide range of services from the councils where the diagnosis and treatment plans of special patients are made collectively with the participation of other related departments.
The unit where the department is primarily located is the Yüreğir Hospital, where surgeries are performed and inpatients are monitored. Hepatopancreatobiliary surgery, colorectal surgery, and endocrine surgery outpatient services are provided in the general surgery outpatient clinics at the Yüreğir and Seyhan campuses.
At the Kışla campus, our breast health center is established as a separate unit, where all breast screening and diagnostic tests and needle biopsies are frequently completed on the same day.
As a part of a department that contributes to medical education and science and provides high-level health services at universal standards, our department operates as a center for undergraduate and graduate education.
