Endodontics is a branch of dentistry that deals with problems extending to the dental pulp and their treatment. It encompasses various dental diseases, including:
- When the pulp is damaged or inflamed due to any reason, root canal treatment is necessary.
- The primary reason for root canal treatment is deep and widespread cavities reaching the pulp.
- Especially in young children, the pulp can be damaged due to falls, injuries, or any impact on the teeth. In such cases, regular check-ups should be conducted to monitor the vitality of the tooth. Teeth that lose their vitality require root canal treatment.
- Inflammations resulting from poorly or incorrectly performed root canal treatments also primarily require the renewal of the root canal treatment. The old canal filling is removed, the inflammation is treated, and the root canal treatment is redone.
- In cases of swelling and pus discharge resulting from untreated inflamed teeth, the first procedure that should be done is root canal treatment.
Endodontic treatment aims to preserve the natural tooth by removing the infected or damaged pulp, cleaning and disinfecting the root canal system, and then filling and sealing the space to prevent further infection. This helps maintain the tooth's function and appearance while preventing the spread of infection to surrounding tissues.
