To meet the need for high-quality higher education institutions in our country, it was decided to transform the existing facilities into a university structure with the experience and knowledge of the Turkey Organ Transplantation Burn and Treatment Foundation, which provides contemporary services in the field of health. Başkent University was founded on January 15, 1993. Since its establishment, Başkent University, being one of the leading institutions in organ transplantation in our country, has transferred its knowledge and experience to the Başkent University Adana Dr. Turgut Noyan Practice and Research Center operating in Adana.
Başkent University Adana Dr. Turgut Noyan Practice and Research Center, established on June 26, 1998, has aimed to provide health services that were not available or lacking in the region without compromising on quality. Despite the significant increase in the number of patients with chronic kidney disease in our country, the fact that kidney transplantation, the actual treatment of the disease, has not increased at the same rate has led to the growing importance of this health issue. Therefore, initiating kidney transplantation surgeries was set as a goal by Başkent University per the founding purpose of our center. Towards this goal, the first kidney transplant at Başkent University Adana Dr. Turgut Noyan Practice and Research Center was performed on February 8, 2010.
Our hospital has a separate inpatient service affiliated with the Kidney Transplant Center. This unit, where our patients are followed up after transplantation, has 6 rooms and 12 beds. Our hospital's Yüreğir operating room has the equipment and infrastructure to operate on both the donor and recipient simultaneously. In necessary cases, there are specially designed intensive care beds in the surgical intensive care unit for transplant patients.
Our hospital also has the most comprehensive immunology-tissue typing laboratory in the region, established for determining tissue compatibility and conducting necessary immunological tests during the pre-transplant preparations of kidney transplant patients.
According to the regulation of the Ministry of Health, living donor organ transplantation in our hospital is performed from the spouse, with whom the recipient has been living together for at least two years, and blood and in-laws up to the fourth degree (including the fourth degree). Our transplant programs are successfully carried out by our experienced team.
Since the start of kidney transplantation on February 8, 2010, at Başkent University Adana Dr. Turgut Noyan Practice and Research Center, a total of 343 kidney transplants have been performed until January 2024, including 253 adults and 90 children.
Liver transplants have been initiated at Başkent University Adana Dr. Turgut Noyan Practice and Research Center as of August 2014.
